Boy oh boy oh boy, where do I begin with this whole mess of amazing-ness that Disney has bestowed upon me?
Yeah, well, it was... honestly okay. I wasn't expecting to like it this much. I KNEW I would like it, but I never thought I'd like it enough to be obsessed with it.
I haven't seen it in a month or so, but, here it goes- I'll try-
My thoughts on the characters:
Charlotte (Lotte)- By god, am I ever so tired of people calling her a parody of other Disney Princesses from the past. I mean, since when were any of the past Princesses, "Princess" obsessed? The only one I can think of would be Snow, but hey, she was never desperate nor fan-girly about it!
Anyways, carrying on- I loved this character. Sure, she got on my nerves many-many times, but she gave me a few catch phrases that I plan on using for the rest of my life. She was a good friend and comical character, but it felt like she was too much of a plot devise. She could have been used more, and could have been given much more depth. But I understand the story isn't about her. Face it folks, it's NOT her movie..... unfortunately. :/
She does get annoying after a while, but you can't help but just love her. She really does give a whole other feeling to the movie.
Tiana (Tia, Tia!)- Psh, loved her!
I figured that, with all the, "controversy" surrounding her character, she would turn out to be a Mary-Sue. I feared this beyond belief, every night, wishing and hoping she would be given a flaw and Disney wouldn't be sewed for it. But alas, she turned out to be one tough bitch.
....yes!
I loved her character. Not only is she 'hard working' and 'tough', but she also has another personality. She's giggly and sarcastic at times, and puts her love interest in his place. (I'll get to him next. ^_~)
I hate that people look and instantly feel the need to state her "race". (She's a cartoon, wtf?)
If they're going to do that, than they might as well do the same for Mulan, Jasmine, and Pocahontas as well.
There. Point made. (somewhat).
Many people claim that the problem with her is that she isn't the 'center' of the story, as a few other Princess movies are.
....isn't that a good thing? Do we WANT the whole story to be about one main character? It gives her, as a main protagonist, much more relationship depth with her friends than if the story was fully BASED around her. (Does this make sense?)
Well, anyways, my point is I'm glad she wasn't the only character with depth. I love that she and Naveen are in a "group" than just alone with boring side characters that have no meaning being in the story other than "help" out.
Now, that may not make sense, but you know what, DEAL WITH IT!
Prince (Ali) NAVEEN!!!- GOOD FUCKING GOD WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THIS MAN WHORE SON OF A BITCH WOULD BE THE BEST PRINCE EVER!? WHO!!?
Good god, I never thought we'd get a lead male character like Naveen in any given Disney movie. (Aside from Aladdin, which doesn't count, considering that's HIS movie to begin with.)
There is just so much depth in his character. I love how he appears to be nothing more than a comic relief sidekick, but then shows later in the movie that he has so much more personality than that. He looks like he's only a silly idiot, but then has sad, angry, and happy moments progressing during the film.
Words cannot express my love with this jack ass. Honestly.
To sum everything up about his character- he's just cute. Plain and simple. It all comes down to cuteness. And his EYES. HIS EYES ARE SO CHIBI THEY'RE... ahhh. <3
((*slaps self* Stop it!))
~~~~MOVING ON~~~~
Dr. Facilier: ...SURE. He may not be very scary nor threatening as past villians. He may not have a clear reason as to why he is the villain in the first place. But, damnit, he is one hell of a character, in general.
He's more than just a villain. And many fellow fangirls would agree on that. (not very reliable. Uh... moving on, again.)
Instead of reviewing him as a "SCARRRYYY" villain, I'm going to review him as a character.
He's so... interesting. He acts as though he is one huge threat to society, yet weakens down when he's around his "friends". (Guy needs new friends, seriously.)
I don't think he was given enough screen time for me to properly review his character's personality, but all I can say is he is bad ass. Or at least tries to be. ^_-
(not that I'm reviewing anyone properly to begin with.)
Raymond/Louis: ;_;
W-why, Ray, why?
When I thought I wanted to squish him after watching the teaser, I... I didn't really MEAN it.
Damn you Disney for reading minds! -_-
Gah. He's soooooo sooooo soooo soooo soooooooo------- etc. CUTE!
He makes Jimminy Cricket look like Cartmen. (lame, I know.)
Yeah, he is more than just a "side kick". In fact, both Louis and Ray are more than just typical side kicks that mean nothing for the movie's plot. Louis has his own dream, which is to play a trumpet with humans to prove his worthiness, and Ray.... he's just got his little head in the clouds, but that's okay, he has depth anyway. ^_-
Louis- meh, he wasn't the best, but he wasn't horrible character by any means. He was funny and his animation was fascinating to watch. The way he moved was genius. I love how he carried his weight in a "cute-ish" way. XD
I love that he has his own 'wants'. That's new for a Disney side-kick. Usually, they're just there to help out. Not do much else. Blahh....
Oh, did I cut Ray off? DAMNIT!
Well, you get the point.
I love them all. And, quite frankly, I'm getting tired of reviewing characters.
I'm missing a few. But whatever.
Moving on, to what I thought of the movie as a whole....
I.... don't really know what to think of it. On one hand, I love the characters, animation, and the plotline, but I don't feel it was executed well.
When I first watched it, it felt faced pace and I wasn't able to clearly understand the story. If I was confused, as a 16 year old, who knows what a little 5 year old was thinking.
Everything felt to go by so fast with little "breathing" time, I was never able to FULLY enjoy this as I do with other Disney movies. Although, I knew everything about this movie before seeing it, I was still confused by the execution of it all.
However, is was SO much better the 2nd and 3rd (yep, 3rd.) time I watched it. It didn't feel all-that "fast" as it did, and music eventually stuck to me, and I was able to pay more attention to the personalities of the characters.
(If you can't tell by now.... I'm a huge character person. I analyze charries in my free time.
Yeah, I'mma nerd. So be it.)
Um... oh, mentioning music as I sort-of did.
I liked the songs, but weren't "memorable". Catchy, but not sigh-worthy.
The score, however, was amazing and really made me feel in the mood, but the songs were........ yuck. Just, they were no Menken. (SORRY! sorry, I... I had to do it. UGH.)
I never mentioned how much I love Tiana and Naveen's relationship, have I?
Hm. Strange of me.
Well, I adore this couple with my heart and soul. Yeah, the whole "I hate you but will soon fall in love with you" is a whole cliche, but I feel it was presented well. They soon become frenemies to friends, to eventually feeling more gooshy-mooshy towards each other. It happens pretty fast, but since when did that matter?
As far as I remember, Snow and the Prince never said a word to one another, yet they were ture lovers.
Hell..... Bella Swan and Edward Cullen (Twilight) get "at least" a month (NOT THE BEST EXAMPLE) to... "develop" (lol), yet their relationship still strains.
At least Tiana and Naveen don't HAVE to change who they are to love each other. They accept they're both losers (XD) and help each other fix that.
OMGAKJFASKLDFASDFJ SO CUTE.
...now, this is possibly the worse review you've ever read.
Well... I DON'T CARE.
Just throwing out my thoughts in random little paragraphs. I'm not exactly the most organized when it comes to reviewing anything, and I understand I'm repetative. Oh well. ;D
If anyone reads this, then kudos to you.
But I doubt anyone will, so overall, this is just me talking to myself about how much this movie means to me.
I give is a B + as a whole.
Doesn't get an A, but I never give movies A's these days.
